Supercrawl 2016 kicks off today and we couldn’t be more excited! From today until Sunday James Street North will be flooded with thousands of people looking to get their taste of art, music and culture. Going on it’s 8th year in a row, Supercrawl has grown to be one of Ontario’s largest festivals, with over 160,000 people attending last year.
Lauren: One thing that has never disappointed and continues to get better each year is the FOOD! If you are attending this year, do me a favour and make sure you show up with an empty stomach so you have plenty of room to try some great food or local craft beers. We all know that Hamilton has a booming food scene and James Street specifically is filled with lots of great restaurants, but the vendors and food trucks that attend Supercrawl add a lot more variety to the mix (not to mention make it VERY difficult to pick where to eat!) A few local places to try out are: Saint James, Lake Road Restaurant, Mesa and Charred. Or if you’re looking to try the food trucks and vendors check out The Dirty South, The Harvest Sandwich Shop and The Salted Pig. I promise you will leave with a full belly and a smile on your face!

Barrett: I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that the best part of Supercrawl is the music. It seems like each year they add more and more artists to the lineup and the performances have stolen the show. I’m a big fan of Born Ruffians so I definitely look forward to seeing them play. This year with over 80 performers including The Strumbellas, Wtchs, The Trews and The Dirty Nil, the streets are guaranteed to be packed just like last year. Make sure you don’t miss out!

Kayleigh: Being from Stratford, I have yet to attend a Supercrawl, but this year will be my first! I’ve heard so many good things about it I decided I have to check it out. I’m mostly excited about the fashion zone because I’ve read there will be some 2017 collections being presented. I think its great how they have a diverse group of designers who all focus on something different. Whether its Aggy Power hosting her cosplay showcase or Advanced Vision x L.A. West showcasing their eyewear boutique, you are sure to find something to spark your interest.
Erik: What I love about Supercrawl is that it brings art, food and fashion enthusiasts from all over together to enjoy the atmosphere and culture of James Street North. The festival helps bring to the surface new restaurants and artists in Hamilton and offers local shops 3 nights of wall-to-wall business. Aside from that, the art that is showcased on the streets never cease to amaze me. There are so many talented artists to see that you won’t know where to head first.
Our advice to you: plan out your time before hand so you ensure you don’t miss out on an artist or performer you wanted to see. Get there early and take your time exploring everything Supercrawl has to offer.
